  • Black Garlic-Infused EVOO: Dripping with Health Perks

    July 07, 2016 3 min read 1 Comment

The struggle fought between eating tasty and healthy food has left far too many casualties. Just like you, we're tired of eating health food that makes us gag. Like you, we're tired of eating a tasty dish that wipes our bodies out of commission for days afterwards. It is a senseless massacre of bodily organs and palates that, though pursued with noble intentions, must come to an end.

Ilias and Sons have whipped together a unique infusion that not only brings that struggle to an end- it leaves the body and taste buds wanting more. We present to you - Black Garlic-Infused Extra Virgin Olive Oil (EVOO).

Our Black Garlic EVOO is a unique culinary invention that's loaded with flavor and dripping with health perks. Foodies across nations know that EVOO and Black Garlic carry tastes that mesmerize anyone's taste buds. That's why people add garlic and EVOO to all kinds of meals - because they make food taste amazing. I can't tell you how many times I've heard somebody say under their breath at a restaurant "Needs more garlic" or "Not enough EVOO". That's why infusing garlic and EVOO together was a no-brainer: they're missing from so many meals anyways, why not sell the two in a bottle and make it easier?

We came across black garlic when researching other super foods like our EVOO. Once we learned about how tasty and healthy the herb was, we decided to try mixing the two super foods together. One taste revealed the two super foods were a must-mix - and that we needed to make ALOT more. Our friends and family agreed, and so did our friends at Organic Box. In fact they loved it so much that word got around. With time our EVOO experiment became a best seller at several Ottawa vendors.

Aside from tasting awesome, Black Garlic protects against cancer, cholesterol, disease, and infection. The fermented garlic is also ripe with vitamins.

    CANCER AND CHOLESTEROL REDUCTION

Through being fermented for a month long, Black Garlic has much higher concentrations of the compound S-allycystein (a natural part of fresh garlic that stems from the amino acid cystein) than regular garlic. Healthmad.com reports that the compound is responsible for lowering cholesterol and the risk of cancer.

A Japanese study completed in 2007 suggests that the use of black garlic can reduce the size of tumours found on laboratory mice. However, there's still a lack of evidence to confirm that the same effect occurs on humans.

    INFECTION OBSTRUCTION

Black garlic has antifungal, antimicrobial and antibiotic agents within it's active ingredient allicin. S-allycystein has been proven to help the body absorb accilin faster, in turn helping to bolster protection from infection.

    DISEASE PREVENTION

Traditional garlic is loaded with antioxidants. And black garlic has twice as much! According to OrganicAuthority.com, antioxidants fend off disease from attacking the body's cells, and may even slow down the aging process. Because black garlic has so many antioxidants, the abundance helps protect against free radical cell damage that can cause Alzheimers, heart disease, circulatory damage and rheumatoid arthritis.

    PACKED WITH VITAMINS

Black garlic is loaded with tons of vitamins including:

    • Manganese: Great for helping build a healthy bone structure, bone metabolism; and creating key enzymes for building bones.
    • Vitamin B6: Assists in protecting the immune system. The vitamin also benefits the body's metabolism, hormone control, and prevent skin conditions and kidney disorders - to name a few.
    • Vitamin C: Vitamin C helps protect against immune system deficiencies, cardiovascular and eye disease, prenatal health problems, and even skin wrinkling.
    • Selenium: This mineral is key to cognitive functioning and fertility!
    • Phosphorus: Phosphorus has many health benefits, not the least of which is maintaining healthy bones and teeth.
    • Copper: Helps develop collagen within the body, bolsters iron absorption and energy production.
    • Vitamin B1: Otherwise known as Thiamine, this vitamin plays an important role in keeping the nervous and cardiovascular system healthy.
    • Calcium: Calcium is widely known for building and maintaining strong bones. But Calcium is also essential for keeping the body's heart, muscles and nervous system healthy.

For those reasons and more, our Black-Garlic elixir leaves those who indulge feeling revitalized, living better, and craving more. When you're ready, have a taste by visiting our online store

Would you be willing to advise on whether I could infuse black garlic in olive oil at home without risk of botulism. If risk-free, would you also be willing to share a simple recipe? Eternally grateful,
    M. Graham
